Preliminary Deconstruction

PRELIMINARY DECONSTRUCTION or PREPARING A CENOTAPH was a durational performance about processing grief. In 2013, Maureen Booth had a request. She would donate and deliver her late husband’s heirloom piano in exchange for a small sculpture made from its parts. When the piano arrived it was too stunning to immediately disassemble, so I planned a three-week durational performance, during which the piano was publicly deconstructed at the American University Museum.
